Jamaican sprinter Deon Hemmings was born today 1968 in St. Anns, Jamaica. She is the first Jamaican woman to win an Olympic Gold and once held the Olympic Record for the women's 400 M Hurdles.

Abigail Eliot, a founding member of the National Association for Nursery Education, was born today in 1892.


Mary Shadd Cary

Mary Shadd Cary, an American-Canadian anti-slavery activist, journalist, publisher, teacher, and lawyer, was born today in 1823. She was the first Black woman publisher in North America and the first woman publisher in Canada.
