Abigail Scott Duniway

Abigail Scott Duniway, an early western author and Pacific Northwest suffrage leader, was born today in 1834. She succeeded in winning suffrage in Oregon.

Doris Lessing, a British-Zimbabwean (Rhodesian) novelist, was born today in 1919. She was awarded the 2007 Nobel Prize in Literature, becoming the oldest person ever to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature.
