Florence Chadwick

Florence Chadwick, a legendary female long distance swimmer, was born today in 1918. At age 10, she swam the 2.5 mile channel at the mouth of San Diego Bay, later swimming the English channel in 1950 and besting the existing record by 71 minutes.


Roger Arliner Young

Roger Arliner Young was born today in 1969. She was the first African American woman to receive a doctorate degree in zoology.


Rapper Pepa of the rap trio Salt-N-Pepa (born Sandra Denton) was born today in 1970.. Salt-N-Pepa are best known for their hits "Push It" and "Lets talk about Sex."
