ROSA PARKS
Rosa Parks, “Mother of the Civil Rights Movement,” was born today in 1913. Her arrest after refusing to give up her seat on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama led to a boycott of the bus system and a famous Supreme Court case to integrate buses.
Betty Friedan
Betty Friedan, feminist author and activist, wrote The Feminine Mystique (1963) and cofounded the National Organization for Women (NOW). She was born today in 1921.
