Zitkala-Sa (Gertrude Bonnin)

Zitkala-Sa (also known by her missionary-given name Gertrude Bonnin) was born today in 1876. She was a writer and Sioux Indian activist. She founded the National Council of American Indians in 1926 to lobby for rights to United States citizenship and civil rights.

Edna St. Vincent Millay

Edna St. Vincent Millay, the first woman to receive the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, was born today in 1892.
