Author Judy Blume was born today in 1938. Some of her best known works are Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, and Blubber.

Frances "Fannie" Barrier Williams was born today in 1855. She was an African-American educator and political and women's rights activist who became well known for her efforts to have blacks officially represented on the Board of Control of the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893.
