Ellen Swallow Richards

Ellen Swallow Richards was born today in 1842. The first woman to graduate from MIT, she is recognized as the creator of the fields of ecology and home economics and was co-founder of the Association of Collegiate Alumnae, which later became the American Association of University Women.


Jennifer Josephine Hosten of Grenada became the first Black Miss World in 1970.
