Maggie Kuhn
Maggie Kuhn, a senior rights activist, was born today in 1905. She founded the Gray Panthers movement in after she was forced to retire from her job. The Gray Panthers became known for advocating nursing home reform and fighting ageism.
Linda Chavez-Thompson
Linda Chavez-Thompson, a second-generation Mexican American and union leader, was born today in 1944. She was elected the executive vice-president of the AFL-CIO in 1995 and served until September 21, 2007, working on behalf of the fifty-six national and international unions to represent more than 11 million workers. Since retiring, she ran to be the Lieutenant Governor of Texas and was the vice chair to the Democratic National Committee.
