Demi Lovato, a pop artist, was born today in 1992. She has become an advocate for those struggling with mental illness. The stigma behind mental illness, especially in Latin American cultures, can prevent many from seeking help. Through becoming vulnerable and being open about her own experiences with depression and bipolar disoder, Lovato has paved the way for others to seek guidance and counsel.

Sir Lady Java (also known simply as Lady Java) was a Black transgender activist and performer who protested against police harassment and trans discrimination in the 1960s and 1970s. She was born today in 1943.
