Jane Lee, a Chinese activist in the revolution of 1911, was born today in 1902. She came to San Francisco on student visa in 1922 to Mills College, and later worked in 1930s with the YWCA to find jobs for Chinese women.


Shirley Maclaine

Shirley MacLaine, veteran film and theater actress, dancer, author and spiritual seeker, was born today in 1934. 


Barbra Streisand

Barbra Streisand, a singer, actress, director and producer, was born today in 1942. She won two Academy Awards for “Funny Girl” (1968) and one for lyrics (to “Evergreen”) in “A Star is Born.”
