Victoria Woodhull

Victoria Woodhull, the first woman candidate for U.S. President (for the Equal Rights Party), was born today in 1838. She was the first woman, with her sister Tennessee, to become members of the NY Stock Exchange.


Mary Church Terrell

Mary Church Terrell, the first president of National Association of Colored Women, was born today in 1863. She was one of the first African-American women to earn a college degree, and became known as a national activist for civil rights and suffrage. She was the first African-American woman in the United States to be appointed to the school board of a major city, serving in the District of Columbia until 1906.


Harriet Hardy

Harriet Hardy, was an American pioneer in occupational medicine and the first woman professor at Harvard Medical School. Her main points of study were toxicology and environmental related illness. She was born today in 1906.
