Ruby Hurley

Ruby Hurley, an American civil rights activist who was a leader in the Civil Rights Movement and administrator for the NAACP, was born today in 1909.

Lise Meitner, an Austrian-Swedish physicist who worked on radioactivity and nuclear physics, was born today in 1878. Meitner, Otto Hahn and Otto Robert Frisch led the small group of scientists who first discovered nuclear fission of uranium when it absorbed an extra neutron.
