Betty Williams

Betty Williams was a co-recipient with Mairead Corrigan of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1976 for her work as a cofounder of Community of Peace People, an organization dedicated to promoting a peaceful resolution to the Troubles in Northern Ireland. She was born today in 1943.

Mary Cassatt

Mary Stevenson Cassatt, an American painter and printmaker, born today in 1844. Cassatt often created images of the social and private lives of women, with particular emphasis on the intimate bonds between mothers and children.
