Sophie Taeuber-Arp

Sophie Taeuber-Arp, a Swiss artist, painter, sculptor, textile designer, furniture and interior designer, architect, and dancer, was born today in 1889. She is considered one of the most important artists of concrete art and geometric abstraction of the 20th century.


DOLLY PARTON

Dolly Parton, singer and songwriter best known for country music, was born today in 1946. She has composed over 3,000 songs, notably "I Will Always Love You," "Jolene," "Coat of Many Colors," and "9 to 5." As an actress, she has starred in films including 9 to 5 (1980) and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982), for which she earned Golden Globe nominations for Best Actress.


Alice Hohlmayer was a first sacker and pitcher who played from 1946 through 1951 in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. She was born today in 1925.
