Hattie Alexander

Hattie Alexander, a pediatrician and microbiologist, was born today in 1901. She identified and studied antibiotic resistance caused by random genetic mutations in DNA, and was the first woman elected president of the American Pediatric Society.


Lourdes Casal

Lourdes Casal, a Cuban-born poet, organizer and activist, was born today in 1938.


Judith Resnik, an engineer, astronaut, one of six qualified women chosen as mission specialists in 1984, and the second American woman in space, was born today in 1949.
